How to Wash Silk & Delicate Fabrics

For your convenience, use the bottle cap for measuring. Use ½–1 capful (3.75–7.5ml) for hand washing, or 1 capful per machine load.

For best results, we recommend hand washing silk in cold water to preserve its natural sheen and protein fibres. Gently agitate and rinse thoroughly. Do not wring.

If machine washing, use a delicate or silk cycle, and place garments inside a delicates bag for protection.

Pre-treat stains with Stain Savvy laundry stick where required.

Q1: What is the best detergent for washing silk?

The best silk detergent is one that is pH-neutral, enzyme-free and specifically formulated for delicate fibres. Silk Savvy is designed precisely for this - it gently cleanses without stripping silk's natural proteins or damaging its lustre.

Q2: Can I use regular detergent on silk pillowcases or silk lingerie?

No. Regular detergents will likely strip silk’s natural proteins, dull its finish, and cause fibres to weaken. That's why we developed Silk Savvy, it's gentle, enzyme-free and uses curated ingredients that provides the best care and clean for silk, satin and delicates.

Q3: Can I wash silk in the washing machine?

Yes, with the right detergent. Silk Savvy is suitable for both hand washing and gentle machine cycles. Always use a cold or delicate setting and place silk items in a delicates wash bag for extra protection.

Q4: How do I wash silk pyjamas?

Silk pyjamas can be hand washed or machine washed on a gentle/delicate cycle using Silk Savvy. Use cold water and use Silk Savvy -avoid harsh detergents with bleach, optical brighteners and 'cleaning enzymes' (which can be a clue to them containing harsh chemicals) that can break down silk fibres over time.

Yes. It’s hypoallergenic, free from sulphates, parabens, and synthetic dyes - safe for sensitive or eczema-prone skin.

Q6: Can I use Silk Savvy on satin & other delicates?

Absolutely. It’s ideal for satin, charmeuse, chiffon, and other delicate fibres. And yes you can use Silk Savvy on wool too. It’s also excellent for cleaning and sanitising make-up brushes due to its gentle antibacterial properties and design for fine fibres.

Q7: How long does one bottle last?

Each 500ml bottle is 3× concentrated, delivering up to 65 washes (hand washing affords more washes per bottle), making it economical, practical and luxurious.

Q8: How do I wash a silk pillowcase at home?

Hand wash your silk pillowcase in cold water with a small amount of Silk Savvy, we suggest starting with 7-15ml (but the amount you use depends on how much you are washing and how much water you use), gently agitate, rinse thoroughly and lay flat to dry. Avoid wringing or tumble drying.
